Cllr. Kathryn Barker
Many people in the West Hunsbury area probably already know me as "the lady on the Mobility Scooter with the dog!" Always ready for a chat, I listen to concerns and act on them within my remit or advise where best to take your concerns.
I moved to the Hunsbury area in 1986 so I know the area exceptionally well.
I am now part of the "Protected Characteristics" section of society being disabled. Therefore one of my main aims is to bring an understanding of and develop an awareness of the issues that face this group of residents daily in both our local area and all of Northamptonshire. I seek to promote equality for all by representing the ongoing and developing needs of this increasingly growing sector. I now represent this disfranchised group as a member of : WNC Disability Forum, WNC Pan Disability Forum, and both the West & North Northants Local Access Forum where I highlight issues and needs with my focus being locally driven.
I also seek to help develop a more community feel which encapsulates the needs of all from the youngest resident to the oldest.

I've lived in West Hunsbury for a number of years with my wife and young family and feel very lucky to have the parks, green spaces and access to nature that we have here.
I have experience professionally working with communities around the UK leading the outreach work for national horticultural charity Garden Organic. My role involves project management with a remote team, overseeing a national network of community volunteers, engaging with stakeholders / partner organisations, and undertaking fundraising and bid writing to secure projects. I'm passionate about environmental education and feel very fortunate that I'm able to see the many benefits people gain from engaging with the natural world around them.
